Have you heard about blogging? and you want to start your own blog? Then there are a few things that you should know. I will explain them with few steps.
1. Find what you know
First, you should find what you know and what you are passionate about talking, This is the very first advise any Succesful blogger will give to a beginner. Not only that, but you should also evaluate how competitive the niche you are about to target. If you select a niche with too much competition blogs with higher authority will beat you easily.
2. Sign Up For Hosting
Once you have decided on your niche, you need to sign up for hosting. This is where your files are stored and served via the internet. Hosting supports your site and keeps it live and online.
Next, you’ll need to select a hosting plan. If you are a small or medium sized site I recommend going with the basic plan. You can move to a better plan when your site is growing and you have more traffic.
In the beginning, a shared hosting plan will serve your purpose. I started with a shared plan of Namecheap.com hosting.
3. Select a Domain Name
Once you have selected your hosting plan you should find a name for your site. This is the www. link for your site or like your home address, this is the address for your blog site. Selecting a domain name is the most important part of your blog.
How to pick a good domain
Your blog name should reflect your blog’s mission. Take some of your friend’s ideas as well and don’t be hurry to pick a domain name, because it is going to be your brand. More importantly, check if the domain that you are going to pick is already taken by another one. Because you are not allowed to take a domain that is already in use. Blog names can be federally trademarked. It means that a person or an entity owns the federal rights to a particular name or phrase. Initially, I used NameCheap.com to buy the domain.
Once you’ve chosen your name and verified that it’s available, you can purchase the domain name for a term that you prefer. I recommend purchasing the domain for at least one year period. If you have a long plan for your blog try to purchase the domain for an even longer period. Because you will be charged at a discounted rate when the term is longer.
4. Choose the Blog Platform
After you set up your hosting and domain name, You can log in to your NameCheap dashboard and you’ll want to install WordPress on your new hosting. WordPress is the “software” that you’ll use to actually blog. Basically, it’s where allows you to type up your posts and upload them onto your site.
5. Prepare Some Posts Before Publicly Announce Your Blog
I have seen a lot of new blogs that have announced and advertised but when you go and visit the blog there are only a handful of posts available for readers. You should have at least 10 or 15 posts published in your blog before you advertise your blog publicly. Not only that but at least you should have another 10 posts in the queue that you can upload in a regular schedule. Otherwise, you will not be able to retain your audience.
6. Set Up Google Adsense
One of the most known way to earn money in blogging is, setting up Google Adsense. Google Adsense is a simple way to earn some money showing ads on your sidebar.
Generally, you’ll earn around $1 to $2 per CPM with Google Adsense. CPM = cost per 1,000 pageviews. So if you have 10,000 page views per month, you’ll earn around $20 per month with Google Adsense.
That might not seem like a lot, but as you continue to grow your readership, you can see those numbers steadily climb. If you are really passionate about blogging you can even convert blogging into your full time job and earn a substantial amount of money. The beauty of blogging is, you can do it from where ever you want as long as you have a computer and an internet connection.
